Hammers

There are various types of hammers in use. The most commonly used hand hammer is Ball-Pane hammer. Other types are Cross Pane hammer and Straight edge hammer. Schematic of a Ball pave hammer is as shown below –

Hammers are made of cast steel. A wooden handle is fixed on the hammer to use it conveniently. The wooden handle passes through the eye of the head of the hammer. The length of the handle or shaft of a 1/2 pound ball pane hammer is about 13.5 inch. Ball Pane hammer is used for all type of general work and also for riveting. Weights from 7 to 14 pounds are also used for heavy type of work like forging shafts while it is red hot.
